WHAT TO EXPECT

School Owners looking to give their up and coming assistant instructors a solid knowledge base on conducting classes, the course is the answer. It's also appropriate for owners to recap on existing skills


This course is the ideal method to help instructors train students in basic unarmed self-defence skills, whether its against a single / multiple attackers that are unarmed. Its aimed at those working as self-defence instructors in a community recreation environment.


Each course tests the instructor's knowledge of self defence and 

challenges them to create the appropriate class plans to map out your program, with the resources supplied.


The main focus is on preventing incidents by undertaking a risk-analysis process in relation to activities, applying general work health and safety requirements. Using the right insurance is vital and this is explained in the resouces.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Who is this course aimed at?

This is our entry level martial arts instructor's course for people to gain a core base understanding of coaching and business operational principles. Ideally it is for teacher helpers /assistant instructors to senior instructors (2+ years of training - purple / brown / black belt level equivalent) 


Prerequisites for enrolling for this course: 

A student is required to have a minium level of martial arts skills / knowledge (2 years). Currently training at a martial arts school and is working / planning to work to help the Chief Instructor / Owner take classes / run the school.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Identify participant needs and expectations.

    This unit explores student / client needs and the expectations they have on participating in martial arts / sports training.

  • Instruct a basic self-defence program.

    This unit provides insights into creating a self defence program so  students have a better understanding of instructing.

  • Implement a warm-up and cool down program.

    Instructing any physcial activitiy requires the knowlwedge of understanding sports science. In particular the most efficient way to warm & cool down the body in preparation for a martial arts class.

  • Using the right insurances for your club

    Insurance can be complex when it comes to running a martial arts club so knowing what to look for is vital. This unit tells you how the insurance works and identifies gaps in risk.

  • Evaluate and review performance of self and the program

    This unit gives students insights into the correct way to review peoples performances and give feedback.

  • Identify risks, conduct a risk analysis and risk assessment

    It is important to make sure the environment is safe for students to train and this could indoors or outdoors. This unit helps you identify risks and make places safeer for training.

  • Treat and manage risk appropriately / Health & Safety

    Managing health & safety is vital in the workplace and in preparing / running activities. This unit covers what you need to stay compliant. 

  • Monitor and review risk management strategies.

    This unit is partuclarly important for meeting insurance obligations by putting in strategies to prevent incidents. It also covers waiver forms and incident reporting.
